Comparison

DiscoLike vs Clay

Clay is a workflow table that buys data from 150+ providers and chains enrichment, AI columns, CRM sync, and sending together. DiscoLike is a company discovery and prospecting platform built on its directory of 82M+ business websites, with contacts, email finding, enrichment, research, and CRM push built on the same index. Here is what each one covers, from company discovery to verified contacts.

TL;DR

Clay is an orchestration layer. Its strength is the table: conditional runs, formulas, scheduled sources, auto-dedupe, signals, CRM auto-sync on Growth, and its own Sequencer, with data bought per credit from 150+ providers. Claygent is its research agent, billed at 1 action per prompt plus data credits.

DiscoLike covers more of the prospecting workflow than it is usually credited with. Company discovery runs on our own index. Contact search returns people at every match with email, phone, LinkedIn, seniority, department, and skills. Email finding SMTP-checks candidate addresses. Firmographic, technographic, and growth data append to any domain list. DiscoGen researches each company or contact on your own model and search keys, so it can also write a personalized line per lead. Native HubSpot, Salesforce, and Pipedrive connectors push companies and contacts on every plan.

What DiscoLike does not do: no visual branching canvas, no scheduled refreshes, no sequencer. If your workflow needs if/then logic in a table or sending in the same tool, Clay is the better home for that part. Many teams build and research the list in DiscoLike and keep Clay for orchestration.

DiscoLike indexes more than 82 million companies: 3x LinkedIn's company coverage, 2x Google Maps coverage, 98% of businesses with a website, at 98.5% company-record accuracy.

Clay details reviewed October 8, 2026 from the public product and pricing pages linked below. Spotted something outdated? and we'll fix it.

1. After the company list: people, emails, and research

A common read is that DiscoLike stops at a list of domains and everything after that is Clay's job. It does not. Every company DiscoLike finds can go straight into contact search, filtered by persona, seniority, or department, returning email, phone, LinkedIn, and skills where we have them. Where contact search returns too few people for a company, run ContaGen to search the live web for the people who work there.

Email finding takes a name and a domain, generates the likely addresses, and SMTP-checks each one. Verify in the app runs the same check on emails you already have. Catch-all domains accept arbitrary addresses at the SMTP stage. Use catch-all resolution for further checks and keep unresolved addresses separate; verification does not guarantee delivery. Enrichment appends industry, sub-industry, employee and revenue ranges, address, business model, the vendors a company actually connects to, and quarterly growth to any domain list, all from the same crawl that powers discovery. If you use a CRM, the native HubSpot, Salesforce, or Pipedrive connector pushes the companies and contacts into the CRM, matches against what is already there, and writes back domains, emails, and segments.

DiscoLike keeps account discovery, fit validation, research, contact discovery, email checks in one product, with exports and optional CRM connectors. Its company directory comes from website and network evidence; contact records have their own sources. Clay is useful when you want to configure additional providers and workflow rules.

DiscoLike covers discovery, people, emails, enrichment, research, and CRM push. What it leaves to other tools is branching logic and sending.

2. Research: the whole company versus one row

Claygent runs on a single row and reads whatever columns you configure. To give the model real context you build extra columns, and usage depends on the provider and configuration. Check which website context is already available and which retrieval steps your workflow needs.

DiscoGen appends the full firmographic profile to every prompt at no additional cost: name, domain, contact information, address, top keywords and business categories, summary, and the entire homepage text. Models identify companies by correlating several signals, not by matching a single string, so the model is anchored on what the company actually says about itself. Each company gets its own isolated context window, and open-web search can be switched off so the model answers only from company-reported data.

DiscoGen ships the whole company with every prompt. Compare the cost of assembling equivalent context in each workflow.

3. Personalization: one researched line per lead

DiscoGen also researches contacts. Point it at a list of people from contact search, choose how much context to send (the person's profile alone, plus their company, or plus the company's full homepage), and give it a prompt. With web search on, it can look for something recent and specific about the person or the company and turn it into an opening line, one row at a time, with the source attached so a rep can check it before sending.

Ask it to admit when it finds nothing. A blank you can filter is worth more than a generic compliment that makes the whole sequence read like a template. Lead lists from outside DiscoLike are matched to our contact index first, then researched the same way.

DiscoGen contact research, context: profile plus company homepage, web search on

Prompt

We sell route-planning software for cold-chain distributors. Write one opening line for a cold email to this person. Base it on one specific, recent fact about them or their company from the last 90 days, and return the source URL. If you can't find anything specific, return NO_HOOK. Under 25 words, no flattery.

Output column

Line: Saw you opened a second cold-storage facility this summer, which usually means two route plans that have to share one fleet. Source: the company's newsroom post announcing the new facility Illustrative output. A row with nothing specific to cite returns NO_HOOK.

Personalization is a research prompt with an output format. DiscoGen runs it per lead on your own model and search keys, with no per-action fee.

4. Models and search: bring your own

DiscoGen lets you bring your own search provider and model. We recommend Serper, which provides Google Search, paired with the best model for the task: GPT Luna for business knowledge or Gemini for maps questions. Brave, Tavily, Perplexity, Exa, SearXNG, and others work too. You see exactly what was queried, and the bill goes to the provider at list price, no markup.

Claygent runs on Clay's models and search. Clay's own models cost a fixed number of data credits, advanced reasoning models are billed variably, and with your own model key each run still counts as an action.

The search provider is where most of the research cost and quality lives. DiscoGen hands you the key.

What a thousand rows actually costs

Clay's published plans (clay.com/pricing, October 2026): Free at 500 actions and 100 data credits a month; Launch at $185/mo billed monthly or $167/mo billed annually, with 15,000 actions; Growth at $495/mo monthly or $446/mo annually, with 40,000 actions and 6,000 data credits; Enterprise custom. Data credits start at $0.05 each, each AI prompt is 1 action, and every provider column in a waterfall draws more credits. CRM auto-sync, webhooks, and the HTTP API column start on Growth.

DiscoLike's subscription ($99 to $1,599/mo, see pricing) converts entirely to credits for company and contact records, with repeat record retrievals free within 90 days. Older records are chargeable again, and query fees still apply. With your own keys, DiscoGen adds no provider markup. Model and search charges vary by task; measure a representative sample rather than treating a historical estimate as a fixed rate. The full argument is in DiscoGen: A Claygent Alternative with BYOK.

Where Clay genuinely wins

Workflow logic. Clay's table runs columns conditionally, refreshes sources on a schedule, can dedupe automatically, and combines signals and CRM data into Audiences. DiscoLike provides a managed prospecting workflow. Custom branching and scheduled orchestration can run in an agent, n8n, or your own code.

Sending and sync. Clay has its own Sequencer and pushes leads directly into Instantly, Smartlead, Outreach, Salesloft, and others, and on Growth it keeps the CRM in sync automatically. DiscoLike supports exports, webhooks, and optional CRM push; sending runs in your preferred outreach tool.

Provider breadth. If you want every phone and email provider in one waterfall, Clay's marketplace is the widest. DiscoLike integrates with Clay, so the common pattern is to build, enrich, and research the list in DiscoLike, then hand it to Clay for the logic and the sending.

Fit

Which one is right for you?

Choose DiscoLike if

  • Finding the companies is the hard part, especially in niche or non-English markets that provider databases cover thinly
  • You want discovery, contacts, enrichment, and research from one index and one account, not a credit per provider column
  • Research and personalization need the full company context, on your own model and search keys
  • An agent drives the work over MCP or the API, from Claude Code, n8n, or your own code
  • You push to HubSpot, Salesforce, or Pipedrive and want that on every plan

Choose Clay if

  • You need if/then logic, formulas, and multi-step chains in a visual table
  • You want enrichment to refresh on a schedule and the CRM to stay in sync automatically
  • You want the widest provider waterfall for emails and phone numbers
  • You want sending in the same tool, through Clay Sequencer or direct pushes into Instantly, Smartlead, Outreach, or Salesloft

FAQ

Common questions

Does DiscoLike return contacts, or only companies?

Both. Contact search runs on every company DiscoLike finds and returns email, phone, LinkedIn, seniority, department, and skills where available. ContaGen can search the live web for people where contact search returns too few, and email finding SMTP-checks candidate addresses.

Can DiscoLike replace Clay?

For building the list, finding the people, enriching, researching, personalizing, and pushing to HubSpot, Salesforce, or Pipedrive, many teams use DiscoLike on its own. For conditional workflow logic, scheduled refreshes, automatic CRM sync, and sending, no: that is what Clay's table and Sequencer are for.

Can DiscoGen write personalized opening lines?

Yes. DiscoGen runs any prompt per contact, with the person's profile, their company, and optionally the company homepage as context, plus live web search on your own provider. Ask for one line based on a specific recent fact, with the source URL, and a NO_HOOK value when nothing specific turns up.

Is DiscoGen a replacement for Claygent?

For research columns, yes: DiscoGen runs any prompt per company or contact with the full firmographic profile and homepage text as context, from the DiscoLike web app, REST API, or MCP. It does not reproduce Clay's table around the agent: conditional runs, waterfalls, and the Sequencer.

How do I reduce wrong-company research?

Any research model can confuse similarly named companies when the context is incomplete. Supply domain, location, and business details, and inspect source evidence. DiscoGen sends name, domain, address, keywords, categories, summary, and the full homepage text, so the model correlates several signals before it answers.

Do I need Clay to use DiscoLike?

No. DiscoLike runs standalone through the web app, REST API, MCP server, Python SDK, and CLI. If you do use Clay, DiscoLike integrates with it: build and research the list in DiscoLike, then send it to Clay for workflow logic and sending.
