What an ideal customer profile is

An ideal customer profile (ICP) is a description of the companies most likely to buy from you, succeed with your product, and stay. It is written at the account level, not the person level: it describes the company, its industry, size, location, technology, and what it does, rather than the job title of the person who signs.

A useful ICP is specific enough to sort a list. "Mid-market SaaS companies" is a category, not a profile; it does not tell a rep or a search engine which of two software companies to keep. "B2B SaaS companies with 50 to 200 employees, selling to logistics firms, running HubSpot" does. Every clause is something you can check on a company's website.

The traditional way to build one is to look at closed-won accounts, find the traits they share, and write them down. That still works, and it is the first step in target account modeling. The failure mode is stopping there: the profile becomes a slide, and the account list is still built from whatever filters the data vendor offers.

An ICP is only worth writing if it turns into a list. That is why this generator returns a search prompt alongside the profile: the wording is meant to be run against company websites, not filed.

How it works

How the generator works

  1. Describe the customer

Type who you sell to in plain English, up to 4,000 characters, or pick one of the examples. Industry, geography, size, technology in use, what they make, who they sell to: whatever you would tell a new SDR on day one.

  2. Submit

No captcha, no form, no login. Your text goes to the same ICP wizard that runs inside the DiscoLike product.

  3. Wait for the profile

Most profiles come back in well under a minute. The result appears on the page as soon as it is ready.

  4. Use it

The result renders on the page with a copy button for the search prompt. From there you can run the prompt as one free search in the DiscoLike app, or have the profile emailed to you without creating an account.

What you get

The output, section by section

Every result has the same four parts: a profile as short labelled facts, the search prompt, sometimes a handful of example domains, and notes on what was assumed or excluded. Below is an example for the input "Precast concrete manufacturers in Germany". It is illustrative; your own result depends on what you type.

Example output

Sample

Profile

  • Industry: precast concrete manufacturing
  • Country: Germany
  • Company type: producer, not distributor
  • Products: wall panels, stairs, beams, pipes, structural elements
  • Size: any

Search prompt

Manufacturers of precast concrete elements such as wall panels, staircases, beams, pipes and structural components, headquartered in Germany. Companies that cast the elements themselves, not distributors or construction contractors that only install them.

  • Excludes ready-mix concrete suppliers and general construction firms.
  • No size filter applied; add an employee range if you only want mid-sized plants.

The profile chips are for you to read. The search prompt is for the engine: it is rewritten into the language a company uses to describe itself on its own site, with exclusions spelled out, because that is what the search matches on. When the index has close matches, the result also lists a few example domains so you can check the prompt against real companies before running it.

Next step

From ICP to account list

The prompt runs against DiscoLike's index of 80M+ company websites, which covers 98% of companies worldwide and is searchable in 55 languages from one English description. The search matches on what each company says about itself on its own site, not on a category tag someone assigned it, so companies that never listed themselves under your vertical still turn up. Your first search is free; after that, plans start at $99 a month and every plan includes the full index.

Once the list exists, the profile keeps working. Segment your closed-won and closed-lost accounts to sharpen it, negate the accounts that slipped through, and rerun. That loop is the second half of Target Account Modeling in 2 Easy Steps. For what it looks like at the account level, read how ColdIQ doubled a target list in 30 hours, finding 2,000 qualified accounts that Apollo, ZoomInfo, and Cognism did not have.

FAQ

Questions about the ICP generator

Is the ICP generator free?
Yes. There is no charge, no credit card, and no trial clock. Usage is rate-limited and there is a daily cap, so if you hit a limit the page tells you to come back later rather than asking you to pay.
Do I need an account?
No. The generator runs without a login; the only check is a background bot check you never see. You need a DiscoLike account only if you want to run the resulting search across the index. The email option is separate and optional, and the marketing opt-in box is unchecked by default.
What data does it use?
Only the description you type. The profile and search prompt are generated by DiscoLike's ICP wizard from that text; nothing is scraped from your browser or your company. When the result includes example domains, they are there so you can sanity-check the prompt against real companies before running it.
How is this different from an ICP template?
A template gives you empty headings: industry, size, region, pain points. You still do the thinking, and the finished document does not connect to anything. This tool turns your description into a profile and a search prompt written in the wording a company-website search matches on. The output is a working query, not a worksheet.
Can I use it via API or MCP?
The public endpoint behind this page is for the page only. The same ICP text wizard is part of the DiscoLike product, and both the REST API and the MCP server accept ICP text as search input. The MCP server returns a query plan the model can refine and resubmit, which is the usual path for AI coding assistants. API and MCP access are included on every paid plan.
